Outdoor Sauna Delivery: Access, Unloading and Site Preparation
Outdoor sauna delivery involves more than getting a truck to your address. The important handover is between the carrier’s unloading point and the prepared installation area. Establish who handles each stage before dispatch so a large crate does not become an unexpected project in the driveway.

Ask exactly what the delivery service includes
Request a postcode-specific quote and a written description of the service: where the truck stops, how unloading occurs and whether the carrier moves goods beyond that point. Swell describes Cube delivery in a protective crate containing cartons.[1][2] That packaging helps separate freight protection from later component handling, but it does not itself promise placement in the backyard. Ask whether a tail lift, forklift or other equipment is required and who supplies it. Do not assume the driver can improvise lifting arrangements on arrival.
Check the street and unloading area first
Tell the freight coordinator about narrow roads, parking restrictions, steep driveways, unsealed access and limited turning space. Identify a firm, usable unloading area and ask the carrier whether it suits the planned equipment. Send photographs if the approach is unusual. Overhead obstructions and access restrictions should be disclosed rather than discovered by the driver. If delivery requires traffic management, special lifting or access through neighbouring land, organise the relevant professionals and permissions in advance. Never make a crane or forklift plan from the cabin’s appearance alone.
Measure components, not only the assembled sauna
Obtain packed dimensions, package weights and the dimensions of the largest non-divisible component for the exact order. Measure clear gate openings, passage height, corners, stairs and the final approach to the base. The narrowest straight section is not the only limit; turning a large panel may need extra space. Include protruding taps, air-conditioning equipment and door hardware in the route review. Flat-pack access is useful only when the pieces and the people carrying them can negotiate the whole route safely.
Prepare a protected staging space
Before delivery, nominate a dry, secure place to inspect and organise components without blocking exits or everyday access. Ask how long the packaging can remain outdoors and follow the supplier’s storage instructions. Keep glass and finished timber protected during handling, and do not leave parts leaning precariously while the base is unfinished. Plan who will move each item, with suitable help or professional handling for awkward pieces. A promise of two-person assembly is not permission for two people to carry every package regardless of its weight or shape.
Inspect the consignment before assembly
Use the order and packing list to check what arrived, then photograph the crate and any visible damage. Follow the carrier’s and supplier’s procedures for recording concerns at delivery and reporting concealed damage promptly. Retain labels and relevant packaging until the issue is resolved. Do not hide a cracked or damaged component inside the build or attempt a cosmetic repair before asking the supplier. Sorting components before installation also helps identify missing fixings while there is still time to obtain the correct parts.
Sequence the work with some breathing room
Have approvals, base readiness and the access plan settled before booking the final delivery slot. Swell offers assembly assistance for an additional cost, subject to arrangement.[1][2] Confirm the installer’s actual scope and availability rather than assuming assembly travels with the freight truck. Leave room between delivery, assembly and electrical commissioning for inspection and any missing-part resolution. Avoid promising a first sauna session for the evening of arrival. The best delivery plan ends with protected components at a ready site, not a rushed build undertaken to clear the driveway.
Your practical checklist
- Confirm unloading equipment and the precise delivery handover point.
- Get packed and largest-component dimensions for your order.
- Prepare protected storage and an agreed handling route.
- Check the shipment before assembly and retain evidence of any damage.
