Chippy by trade. Sauna is good quality and doesn’t feel cheap. Bench is solid cedar. Haven’t cheaped out. Jointed together with countersunk screws. No clips which I was trying to avoid. Happy with it.

Insulating Technology

The ECO 4 is engineered as a layered outdoor sauna system, not a simple timber box. Each wall layer is designed to hold heat, manage moisture and protect the structure through year-round Australian conditions.
A layered wall system creates a stronger thermal envelope than single-skin designs, helping the ECO 4 retain heat more efficiently while improving long-term rigidity outdoors.
Insulation sits behind the internal cedar lining to reduce heat loss through the wall cavity, supporting faster warm-up, steadier session temperatures and a more comfortable sauna experience.
A reflective aluminium vapour barrier helps direct radiant heat back into the sauna while protecting the wall system from moisture movement inside the heated space.
Premium cedar, considered wall layers and a proven Harvia heater work together to deliver the proper traditional heat Swell customers expect — with the durability needed for Australian backyards.
Premium timber
Sourced from Canada, Western Red Cedar is one of the best timbers for outdoor saunas — naturally durable, weather-stable and premium in finish.
The interior of the Eco 4 is finished with premium Canadian Western Red Cedar cladding, responsibly sourced and rich in natural character. The timber releases a warm, natural aroma and refined finish that makes the sauna feel as good as it looks.
Swell saunas use premium Harvia Wall heaters, a 6kW heater in the Eco 4 model. Heat is never a limitation, with consistent, even performance reaching up to 100°C to deliver a true traditional sauna experience session after session.
The Eco 4 is crafted with clear-grade cedarwood cladding, selected for its natural durability, stability, and timeless appearance. Inside, the sauna remains completely chemical free, allowing the timber to breathe and release its natural aroma as the space warms. Built for outdoor use, the Eco 4 is designed to handle year round conditions while maintaining its refined finish. Every element is considered, with Swell’s signature details throughout to deliver a calm, considered recovery experience.
Engineered for the best possible sauna experience, the Eco 4 now includes the advanced Harvia Fenix WiFi Panel as standard. This premium touchscreen control system gives you simple control over temperature, session timing and LED lighting, with WiFi/app control so your sauna can be ready when you are.
The Eco 4 also features a very comprehensive ventilation system — one of the best in its class — designed to keep airflow balanced, heat consistent and every session comfortable. This is not an optional upgrade; it is included as part of the complete Eco 4 experience.
The Swell Black Eco 4 uses a premium Harvia The Wall 6kW traditional sauna heater and requires a dedicated 25A single-phase circuit installed by a licensed electrician. We intentionally oversize the heater for reliability, strong performance and fast heat-up times, while keeping the sauna below the larger three-phase requirements that are not universal for Australian homes.
No. The ECO 4 does not require three-phase power. It is designed so it can be installed in standard Australian homes with the correct dedicated single-phase circuit added by a licensed electrician.
The ECO 4 is a traditional Finnish-style sauna, not an infrared sauna. It uses a Harvia heater and sauna stones to create full-room heat and steam when water is poured over the stones.
The sauna simply needs a level, compacted surface. Concrete, pavers, decking or a prepared compacted area can all work well. We recommend avoiding direct placement on grass because grass can hold moisture under the base.
The ECO 4 body measures 163cm wide x 159cm deep, with a sloped roof height of 220cm at the front and 210cm at the rear. The roof measures 206cm wide x 189cm deep.
Swell saunas are dispatched from our Melbourne warehouse in protective cartons. Once your order is on the way, you will receive tracking details so you can follow the delivery and plan around its arrival.
The ECO 4 is made for DIY setup, with pre cut components and clear, step by step instructions. Most customers can move the cartons into position and complete the assembly with two people over a few hours. If you would prefer a hands off setup, we have a team available Australia-wide to handle the assembly for an extra cost. Please reach out and we can help arrange it. A licensed electrician is still required to connect the heater.
The ECO 4 heats to 80°C in around 20 minutes and reaches 90–100°C+ with extended use depending on conditions. It uses a premium Harvia The Wall 6kW heater to deliver strong traditional heat for a 3–4 person outdoor sauna.
The Swell Black Eco 4 is designed for 3–4 people, making it suitable for couples, families and shared recovery sessions at home.
The Swell Black Eco 4 includes a 5-year warranty for long-term confidence. It is built with premium materials and designed for Australian outdoor conditions.
