Preparing an outdoor sauna before a long trip

A useful pre-trip sauna plan leaves a clean cabin, a recorded power arrangement and clear instructions for whoever looks after the property. Prepare it before departure day so unresolved maintenance is not handed to a neighbour as a surprise.

Finish the last session before the packing rush

Set aside time for the normal after-use routine rather than making departure morning the final session. For the supplied Cube 2, remove wet towels, robes, buckets and accessories, and wipe the high-use areas once cool. The manual calls for keeping the sauna dry, ventilated and clean after use. [1]

Put portable belongings away outside the cabin. Use a small departure inventory: towels removed, buckets removed, cleaning materials stored elsewhere and nothing left awaiting the next session. This is more useful than writing “cleaned” when different household members may interpret that differently.

Resolve drying and security as separate tasks

The Cube 2 manual describes a brief post-session drying run followed by leaving the door open to ventilate. That is an after-use procedure, not an instruction to leave the heater running or the cabin open throughout a holiday. Complete the applicable routine while someone is present, then decide how the property will be secured. [2]

Do not add a cover simply because you will be away. Put any proposed cover, vent arrangement or unusual exposure question in the pre-departure job list. The answer needs to match the cabin and installed controls; a generic holiday checklist cannot supply that compatibility.

Write down the actual power arrangement

Ask the installer or use the supplied controller instructions to settle the intended shutdown state before the trip. Record the instruction and its source, rather than making up a switchboard sequence. Distinguish normal controls from any work inside equipment. The Cube 2 manual reserves opening the control box or modifying wiring to an authorised qualified technician. [3]

If the system has schedules or remote operation, include them in the review. Record who has access, what has been disabled through its approved controls and who may change it while you are away. Do not leave a caretaker to experiment with unfamiliar menus or reset an unexplained fault.

Leave a short caretaker card

Suggested card: owner contact; dates away; installer contact; where manuals are saved; “no sauna use agreed”; places to photograph from safe ground after unusual weather; and how to report a new mark, loose part or broken glass. Choose observation tasks, not maintenance jobs that require a ladder or opening an enclosure.

For example, an owner leaving for an extended trip can finish the normal drying routine the previous day, save departure photos and ask a neighbour to report visible changes. A later photograph is then compared with a known baseline. On returning, review those reports before planning a session. The departure card and return check should form one continuous record.

Your practical checklist

  • Complete the model’s normal cleaning and drying routine before departure.
  • Remove portable wet items and record departure condition.
  • Document the approved control and power state.
  • Agree whether anyone may use the sauna during the absence.
  • Give the caretaker reporting tasks and contact details, not repair instructions.

Should I leave the door open for the whole trip?

The cited manual describes ventilation after use, not an unattended long-term door position. Plan drying before securing the property.

Should the caretaker run the sauna periodically?

This guide establishes no periodic running requirement. Include only tasks supported by the instructions for your installed equipment.
